The thick root of a perennial bergenia can branch out, spread along the surface of the soil. Leathery foxes grow from the rhizome, the length of which can reach 35 centimeters. There are several varieties of the plant. The most common ones are:

  • Badan Pacific. The plant has bright flowers with a pale lilac tint. They look like small bells. Large (up to 20 cm in diameter) rounded leaves are painted in rich green.
  • Badan heart-leaved. The height of this plant ranges from 20 to 40 centimeters. The beautiful flowers can be purple, white, purple or pink, and the heart-shaped leaves are deep green.
  • Badan thick-leaved. It is this variety that is most often used in folk medicine. Thick-leaved bergenia grows up to 50 centimeters. Its beautiful dark pink flowers and light green leaves turn red-brown in autumn.
