The drug "Papaverine" has been popular for a long time. For many years it has been prescribed for the treatment of various diseases. At the same time, its safety is so great that it can be used for pregnant women and children older than six months. Let's take a closer look at candles with papaverine. The medicine "Papaverine" is prescribed both as part of complex treatment, and in case of emergency removal of spasms of smooth muscles of internal organs.
The product is produced in three forms: tablets, rectal suppositories and injection solution. Tablets are used extremely rarely, as they are slowly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Rectal suppositories are more effective and are therefore prescribed more frequently.
When an emergency is needed, the injection form is the most convenient, thanks to which even severe spasms are eliminated.

Indications
Regardless of which form of release is used: tablets, injections or suppositories with papaverine - the instructions indicate the same indications for use:
- cardiac spasms;
- brain spasms;
- spasms of smooth muscles, peripheral vessels, abdominal organs.
Drug dosage
For adults, suppositories are used 2-3 times a day, 20-40 mg (1-2 suppositories). The maximum single dose is 0.2 g, and the daily dose is 0.6 g.
Children from 6 months are prescribed suppositories with papaverine. The method of application consists in the rectal administration of suppositories 3 times a day from 5 to 20 mg, depending on age. Babies under one year old are allowed to use a third of the candle.
Contraindications
The drug is not prescribed for patients with severe liver failure, hypersensitivity to individual components, glaucoma, AV blockade. Elderly people and children under 6 months of age are not prescribed Papaverine suppositories. Reviews also indicate that when smoking, the effectiveness of the drug is significantly reduced. Also, alcohol is not allowed during the treatment period.
Regardless of age, there are still reasons that do not allow the use of papaverine suppositories. The instruction indicates that in cases where the patient had a traumatic brain injury, a state of shock, chronic renal failure, supraventricular tachycardia,hypothyroidism, prostatic hyperplasia, the use of the drug is not allowed.
Use during pregnancy
