Tooth flux is correctly called periostitis of the jaw, in which the periosteum becomes inflamed and swelling of the soft tissues of the face or submandibular region occurs.

Symptoms of the disease

Tooth flux begins with a slight swelling of the gums and pain. Gradually, pain intensifies, swelling of soft tissues begins. With periostitis of the lower jaw, edema is formed in the submandibular region. If the upper jaw is affected, a swelling forms under the eye.

Periostitis of the jaw is characterized by fever up to 38 degrees and pain radiating to the ear or temple.

When fluxing, fistulas may form, through which pus drains. In this case, the pain subsides, and the patient cancels the visit to the dentist. As a result, a chronic form of the disease develops.

Causes of disease

Most often, flux is the result of neglected caries, turning into pulpitis or periodontitis, which lead to the spread of infection to bone tissue.

Inflammatory process, accompanied by edema, can develop with exacerbation of chronic periodontitis, complex tooth extraction, jaw fracture, osteomyelitis.

In children, tooth flux may appear when an infection entersthrough the blood or lymph during infectious diseases of the throat, such as tonsillitis.

Flux effects

Tooth flux, as a rule, does not go away on its own. The disease may subside for a while, but the inflammatory process in the bone tissue will continue. If time does not treat periostitis, it can turn into life-threatening complications. Pus at the same time spreads beyond the affected area. Then an abscess develops or an even more serious disease - phlegmon, which is characterized by a very high temperature and the penetration of pus into the subcutaneous tissue and intermuscular space of the neck and face. At the stage of phlegmon, the patient is usually taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Flux treatment

Tooth flux should only be treated in a dental clinic. There can be no talk of any recovery with folk remedies at home. Diagnosis is made on the basis of x-ray, clinical picture and anamnesis. Treatment is carried out in the office of a dental surgeon. Most often, the affected tooth cannot be saved. The doctor makes an incision through which the outflow of pus occurs, inserts a drain and simultaneously removes the affected tooth. To quickly and effectively cure the flux, antibiotics are almost always prescribed. Usually prescribe drugs "Doxycycline" or "Amoxicillin", in combination with decongestants and painkillers. It is recommended to drink a lot and apply cold to the cheek.

Flux Prevention

Prevention of periostitis is very simple. Basically, it comes down to basic oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist for early detection of diseases and their timely treatment. If you experience even a slight toothache, you should immediately visit a doctor, and not wait until it goes away on its own. It is very important to brush your teeth properly and remove plaque in time.

Food matters a lot. For the prevention of flux, you need to include more fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. Chewing solid foods is great for strengthening gums and teeth
