Composition and properties of ozocerite
This is a waxy oil product, a natural mineral, a hydrocarbon containing paraffins and ceresins, mineral oils, resins and other impurities. Its other name is mountain wax. The chemical composition of a substance depends on its deposit.

For medicinal purposes, ozokerite is used, purified from alkalis, water, acids. This is achieved by heating the product to 120 ºС. Ozokerite is insoluble in water, but readily soluble in chloroform and gasoline. Its melting point is 52-68 ºС, density - 0.8-0.97. The substance cools very slowly and gradually gives off heat to the body, even at a temperature of 60-70 ºС, procedures with it are easily tolerated.
