Recently, doctors are increasingly prescribing an ultrasound examination procedure. What it is is not clear to everyone, and cumbersome abbreviations sometimes put you in a state of shock.
How to decipher abbreviations?
To understand the principle of operation and the mechanism of operation of ultrasound (what it is and how to treat it) will help decoding: ultrasonic dopplerography of blood vessels. This is a modern method of ultrasound examination of internal organs, based on the Doppler effect.
UZDG MAG - what is it? Scanning of the main arteries of the head, which allows you to analyze the speed and nature of the blood flow of the main vessels of this zone.
UZDG BCS - what is it? This is an informative method for detecting vascular anomalies in both head and neck diseases.
USDG BCA - what is it? This is similar to the previous study. The term BCA (BCS) means brachiocephalic arteries (trunk). The method is aimed at studying a large-caliber arterial vessel that extends directly from the aorta and carries blood to the brain. There are three brachiocephalic arteries: carotid, vertebral and subclavian.
Mechanismwork
Ultrasound is a combined study that combines the standard ultrasound procedure and the Doppler effect and allows you to view both the state of the vessels and the nature of the movement of blood through them. Ultrasound angiography is performed using sound waves that penetrate to a certain depth of the patient's body. This procedure is absolutely painless. Sounds that are inaudible to the human ear are emitted and captured by a special sensor. When reflected from the vascular wall, the information is converted by a computer into a black and white two-dimensional image. Doppler reflects moving objects (red blood cells) on the screen in the form of a color picture. When they are superimposed on each other, an ultrasound picture is obtained.
Pre-preparation and safety study
Using ultrasound, it is possible to determine the state and nature of blood flow in vessels of absolutely any caliber - from large veins and arteries to the smallest capillaries. This method of examination refers to non-invasive procedures. To conduct a study, there is no need to violate the integrity of the structures of the body (for example, as in laparoscopy, when a puncture is made to access the laparoscope, or contrast studies using X-rays, when it is necessary to introduce a certain substance into the lumen of the vessel). This characteristic makes ultrasound as convenient as possible for both the patient and the doctor (there is no need for complex manipulations).
Before the study, there is no need for special preparation - the procedure resembles a conventional ultrasound. The patient needs to takecomfortable position on the couch and expose the area to be examined. Ultrasound scan takes from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
This examination is indicated for people of any age, it can be performed even for newborns, because there is no radiation effect on the body. Ultrasound is considered a safe and highly informative research method.
Structures examined by ultrasound. What is Ultrasound Angiography?
With the help of this medical procedure, the condition of the following body structures can be detected:
- vessel lumen;
- tortuosity degree;
- the condition of the vascular wall, its integrity and the presence of seals;
- pathological narrowing (stenosis);
- functional usefulness of the valve system of the veins and the presence of defects;
- protrusion of the vascular wall;
- obliteration (blockage) of the vessel lumen by a thrombus or foreign body;
- blood flow quality - availability, speed, turbulence.
Ultrasound angiography is the second name for ultrasound, more common, but less capacious.
For what pathologies is ultrasound indicated?
What is it, we sorted it out. But under what pathological conditions is it advisable to prescribe this particular procedure in order to obtain the most complete and reliable information?
- Jumps in blood pressure. This method is informative both in hypertensive crises and in collaptoid states.
- Persistent, drug-resistant headache. You can prescribe an ultrasound scan of the cerebral vessels and those patients who suffer from periodic migraine attacks.
- Angina pain, feeling short of breath, swelling - all these are signs of a violation of the cardiovascular system. They are direct indications for ultrasound angiography.
- Obvious signs of circulatory failure in the extremities (with diabetes mellitus, endarteritis obliterans, Raynaud's syndrome and other vascular and systemic pathologies).
- Repeated fainting spells and other signs of impaired brain activity. Sudden loss of vision.
- Persistent causeless insomnia.
- Aneurysm of vessels.
- Varicose veins.
Ultrasound examination is carried out in real time, the conclusion will not have to wait long.
