We pay less and less attention to ourselves and our bodies. It should not be forgotten that with a lack of useful minerals, in particular calcium, inflammation of the periosteum of the leg can be provoked. Treatment will be difficult and expensive.
Periostitis belongs to the class of bone diseases. As a rule, it manifests itself in the form of inflammation of the periosteum. The disease begins to develop in the inner layer, but due to its instability, the virus quickly infects other layers.
The process of the disease can be divided into several stages: acute and chronic. Due to the occurrence of an inflammatory process in the bone, it can be:
- purulent;
- serous;
- simple;
- fibrous;
- ossifying;
-
syphilitic or tuberculosis.
What is simple periostitis?
This is a bone disease in which the inflammatory process in the bone is accompanied by hyperemia, slight thickening and deterioration of the physiological state of the bones. In most medical cases, it develops after injury andfractures. Often occurs due to bruises and inflammation in the muscles or bones.
The period of development of the disease may be accompanied by local pain and swelling. At this time, the periosteum suffers very much, mainly where the soft tissues do not cover the bone. It should be noted that the inflammatory process in the bone can go away on its own, but within two weeks.
Another problem is that inaction can lead to complications, in which fibrous growths begin to develop.
What is periostitis ossificans?
This is a chronic bone disease in which inflammation of the periosteum of the leg begins due to the development of new bone or prolonged irritation of the periosteum. The disease can proceed independently, and may be accompanied by an inflammatory process in neighboring tissues.
Most often, periostitis ossificans begins to develop in the cortical layer of the bone or under chronic varicose ulcers. If a person is sick with tuberculosis, the disease can progress in tuberculosis foci.
The treatment of periostitis is to eliminate the factors that cause it.
What is fibrous periostitis?
This is a type of bone disease in which the periosteum changes in size. This is due to the fact that periostitis has been irritated for many years.
In some cases, superficial destruction of bone tissue may be observed. With the exclusion of irritants, the size of the periosteum begins to decrease.
What ispurulent periostitis?
This is a disease that belongs to the class of infected skin diseases. It develops when the periosteum is infected, which could be injured after a fall or bruise. It is also possible that the infection can get through the bloodstream from neighboring organs.
It should be noted that in medical history there are cases when the cause of purulent periostitis could not be established.
Diagnosis and treatment
If the inflammatory process in the bone is not accompanied by purulent formations, then treatment is carried out at home with the use of antibiotic therapy and cold. Training at the time of treatment is excluded completely or minimized as much as possible. In the case of purulent formations, treatment is carried out surgically.
