Today people suffer from a variety of diseases, sometimes bringing their body to a terrible state. Is it possible to somehow self-diagnose volvulus? Will I be able to somehow give myself first aid or is it better to go to the doctor right away?
About illness
It is worth noting that volvulus is one of the varieties of intestinal obstruction. It happens as a result of a change in the position of this type of viscera - their plexus or rotation.
Small intestine
How to identify volvulus? Symptoms, by the way, may vary somewhat, for example, with damage to the small and large intestines. So, the most severe form of the disease is observed if it is the small intestine that is twisted. In such a situation, a person may feel a sharp, sharp pain in the upper abdomen, back, possibly the navel. All this is accompanied by a frequent return of the food just eaten. Sometimes there is vomiting of bile. There may also be an accumulation of gases, as indicated by the characteristic grumbling in the womb. If a volvulus of the intestines has occurred, the symptoms can also manifest themselves in the form of asymmetrical bloating (Val's symptom), which is easily determined "by eye". Sometimesthere is also pallor of the patient, low blood pressure and rapid pulse. It is worth noting that the more these entrails are twisted, the more pronounced are all of the above symptoms in the patient. If the patient is not provided with timely assistance, after eight hours everything can end in death.
Sigmoid colon
In older people, sigmoid volvulus can occur. The symptoms are intermittent. This means that from time to time the sigmoid colon will simply wrap itself, which will send a certain signal - abdominal pain. If treatment is not started in time, the natural discharge of gases will be stopped, the stool will disappear. If at this stage the disease remains untreated, symptoms similar to those of the previous type of illness will begin to appear. If such a volvulus of the intestines occurs, the treatment is surgical intervention. Surgeons note that during the operation in the patient's body, an intestine swollen from gases and feces is found, sometimes its size can exceed the normal parameters by 10-15 times.
Cecum
There is another volvulus, the symptoms of which should also be considered. Here we will talk about the caecum. The onset of the disease will be almost similar to the defeat of the sigmoid part - the absence of stool and the cessation of the natural release of gases. Wahl's syndrome may also occur, but the swelling will be concentrated in the left side, while the right side of the abdomen will remain almost normal.
Ondoctor's appointment
Having identified the signs of volvulus on your own, it is best to seek medical help. After all, every lost minute with such a disease can be fatal and even lead to the death of the patient. What will the doctor do if he comes across such a patient? In addition to the standard examination and listening to sounds in the abdomen, he will send the patient for an x-ray, where it will be clearly visible whether there is a twisting of the intestines. If the diagnosis is made, the only thing that awaits the patient is surgery. It can end up simply with the untwisting of the intestine, or maybe with the removal of dead parts of it.
