The medical term "sprain" means a complete or partial tear of a ligament caused by a traumatic effect on the ligamentous apparatus of a particular joint. The cause of these injuries are injuries that occur as a result of sudden movements, when the connective tissue that makes up the ligaments is stretched more than its physical characteristics allow. Often a person who has received the most common type of such an injury - ankle sprain, does not go to the doctor at all. However, it must be remembered that often nodules form in places of tear, which later begin to rub against neighboring tissues, thus becoming the cause of chronic inflammation, which means that a visit to the surgeon in such a situation is simply necessary.

Ankle Sprain: Treatment

1st degree sprain is characterized by the fact that the fibers of the ligaments and tendons of the lower leg are partially torn, pain is barely noticeable. As a rule, such an injury does not require special treatment. It is enough just to limit the load on the foot andfix the joint with a bandage or elastic bandage. You can fully recover from such an injury after 7-10 days. Regardless of the localization, whether it is an elbow tear or an ankle sprain, the treatment will be similar in many respects - temporary rest and a sparing mode of movement in the damaged area. Anti-inflammatory ointments "Troxevasin", "Dolobene" are applied externally.

2nd degree has a moderate gap. The victim experiences severe pain, and swelling and bruising form at the site of the injury. The joint itself has excessive mobility. Such injuries need therapy under the supervision of a doctor, since it is not possible to carry it out at home. Rehabilitation after a torn ligament may include not only physiotherapy, exercise therapy and anti-inflammatory ointments, such as Lyoton or Indovazin, but also pumping blood from the ankle joint capsule, as well as immobilization of the limb. Ice should be applied hourly, but no more than 15-20 minutes. It is also not worth overusing fixation with bandages, since prolonged (over 2-3 hours) squeezing of the injured area can cause damage to blood vessels.

3rd degree - complete rupture of the ligament tissues. The moment of injury is often accompanied by a crunch or crack in the ankle. Treatment is prescribed exclusively by a specialist, includes the appointment of ointments ("Indovazin", "Troxevasin") with the further use of exercise therapy and physiotherapy. In particularly difficult situations, therapy involves surgical intervention, which involves suturing the ligaments.

Ankle sprain: treatment with folk methods

Traditional medicine recipes can be a very useful addition to the treatment of ankle sprains, but they cannot completely replace clinical therapy. This is a kind of application of various substances to the affected areas; for this, grated raw potatoes, diluted clay or ground aloe leaves are used for therapeutic purposes. It is important to remember that no matter how easy a joint sprain may seem, treatment should be prescribed exclusively by a doctor.
