In type 1 diabetes, the patient can use fast-acting (instant), short-acting, intermediate, long-acting and premixed insulin. Which one to prescribe for the optimal treatment regimen depends on the individual characteristics of the organism. When ultrashort insulin is needed, Glulisin is used.
Injection solution called "Insulin glulisine" is purchased in pharmacies by those patients who suffer from diabetes. This drug is required by people to lower the level of sugar, and in addition, for the treatment of this disease. This is, first of all, a short insulin. It is a component of other medicines intended for diabetics. This substance has a pronounced hypoglycemic effect.
This is an analogue of human insulin, which is similar in principle to this hormone. But by its nature, it acts faster and has a shortinfluence.
Method of application and dosage
This solution is used subcutaneously 15 minutes before eating. Dosing is selected individually.
Can be used with a pump system. The daily human need for insulin is, as a rule, 0.5 units. per kilo of mass: two-thirds of them are insulin just before eating. And one third comes from background insulin (basal).
Drug trade names
"Insulin glulisin" in the pharmaceutical market has two more trade names. Many have heard of them.
These are Apidra and Apidra SoloStar medicines.
Drug "Apidra" ("Epidra"): description
Let's take a closer look at this drug.
Insulin Apidra is used to treat diabetes in children over six years of age, and it is also used for adults. The preparation contains 3, 49 milligrams of the main substance. This component can be compared to 100 IU (International Units) of a human hormone. Auxiliary ingredients include water for injection along with m-cresol, sodium chloride and hydroxide, concentrated hydrochloric acid, trometamol and polysorbate.
Insulin "Apidra" is sold in a 10 ml bottle or in 3 ml cartridges. The first option is packed in a cardboard box, and the second is placed in blisters with cells. In the latter version, there are five cartridges thatare loaded into a special pen (that is, into a syringe), called "OptiPen" (this is such a disposable pen).
The manufacturer also makes a separate cartridge system "OptiClick". Absolutely in all containers there is a transparent liquid that has no color.
Apidra SoloStar
The active component is present in it in exactly the same amount as in the previous considered version. "Insulin glulisin" with the trade name "Apidra brand SoloStar" has the following contraindications:
- Presence in patients of hypoglycemia and hypersensitivity of the body to the base or excipient of this medication.
- The period of childhood up to six years.
Medications "Apidra" and "Apidra Solostar" can be purchased at any pharmacy chain.
Subtleties of using these medications
"Insulin glulisin" is almost identical to human. The only exception is the duration of exposure, which is much shorter. It is enough to give the patient just one injection of this drug, as after 15 minutes he will certainly feel significant relief in his condition.
Input methods may vary. For example, this agent is injected subcutaneously into a specific area, and then the procedure is completed using an insulin pump. Infusions can be performed without interruption, which is done into fatty tissue directly under the skin.
The procedure should be done either before meals or after, but notstraightaway. Subcutaneous injections are best performed in the abdominal region, but it is also possible in the shoulder, the thigh is also suitable. But the infusion can be done exclusively in the abdomen. Only a doctor can prescribe a treatment regimen. This drug is used for long-term or intermediate-duration insulin administration.
It is allowed to combine the input "Insulin glulisin" with tablets (use of hypoglycemic drugs). The dosage and choice of the drug is determined by the attending physician, since the patient has no right to independently make a choice. The fact is that this is fraught with extremely negative consequences. Among the important indications for use, one can also find recommendations on the area of administration of the agent. It is important to avoid damage to blood vessels.
