At the present time, it is impossible to imagine a full-fledged examination by a gynecologist without a gynecological kit. It is worth finding out in more detail what the set itself consists of, what sizes it comes in and what variations exist.
Gynecological kit: what does it include?
There are several options for completing disposable kits. Their contents are similar, however, some of them have additional components for taking diagnostic swabs.
The basic composition of the gynecological kit consists of the following components:
- sterile latex gloves;
- diaper lining;
- Cusco's mirror, which allows you to examine the mucous membrane of the cervix and vaginal walls.
Unlike the standard metal mirror that is used when examining women in a consultation, this one is made of plastic with transparent walls. It is used once and cannot be re-sterilized.
Set variations
Difference from the basic setis only in the presence of additional tools. So, the main options for gynecological kits and their equipment:
- With Ayer spatula. This plastic spatula has a surface with micropores, which allows you to better fix the test material on the instrument. It is used to take material from the walls of the vagina, the cervical canal and the surface of the mucous membrane of the cervix.
- With Volkmann's spoon. This tool has a handle, the ends of which are equipped with working parts in the form of spoons. In gynecology and venereology, the Volkmann spoon is often used to collect material from the urethra and cervical canal, as well as from the surface of the mucous membrane of the cervix.
- Set with a cytobrush designed to collect material from the mucous membranes. The handle and working part is a cytobrush. Its working part is covered with elastic soft bristles. If necessary, it can be bent to the desired angle. For nulliparous, the cytobrush will be an indispensable part of the gynecological kit.
- A set that, in addition to the basic components, will include all of the above tools: Ayer's spatula, Volkmann's spoon, cytobrush, and also two glass slides are available.
Choosing a gynecological kit by size
You should pay attention to the size of the set when choosing it. This applies mainly to the size of the Cuzco mirror. Based on this principle, gynecological sets can differ in the width of the speculum flaps and in size. The following sizes are distinguished:
- XS - 70 mm - leaf length, 14 mm - inner diameter;
- S - 75 and 23mm;
- M - 85 and 25 mm;
- L - 90 and 30mm.
For those who have not given birth, it is enough to use a small mirror. But the use of larger mirrors is justified in the presence of a history of childbirth.
Of course, when visiting a specialist, you can take a pair of gloves and a diaper with you, in the office of any gynecologist there is a gynecological mirror. But it will be more convenient to use an individual (already assembled) gynecological set. In addition, it is sterile and intended for disposal after the first use.
