Inflammation of the glans penis is characterized by balanitis - a pathology often caused by pathogens (streptococci, gonococci, trichomonads, staphylococci, spirochetes, Escherichia coli, etc.), as well as an allergic reaction to chemicals, a herpes infection. The development of balanitis can also be caused by microtrauma of the head of the penis and urethra, s alts excreted in the urine in the presence of urolithiasis. If the immune system is weakened due to malfunctions of the endocrine system, an inflammatory reaction can occur even to opportunistic organisms.
Manifestation of the inflammatory process
If the treatment of balanitis in men is not started immediately, the inflammation will begin to develop rapidly and spread to neighboring tissues. The first symptoms are redness, swelling of the head of the penis, exfoliation of the epidermis, itching, burning. Then erosions appear (single or multiple), subsequently turning into extensive ulcers. The pathological process leads to phimosis, while pus accumulates in the fold of the skin of the foreskin. In rare cases, gangrenous balanitis develops, in which necrotictissue breakdown. If symptoms of inflammation are found, contact a urologist or dermatovenereologist. Pathology can be diagnosed by examining samples of secretions taken from formed ulcers or from the surface of the skin.
Treatment of balanitis
The choice of the method of therapy depends on the form of the pathological process. If the inflammation is mild, the affected area is washed with disinfectant solutions of nitrofural, potassium permanganate, rivanol. These procedures must be carried out three times daily. After their implementation, the area is treated with xeroform or tannin. What other means are used to eliminate such an ailment as balanitis? Treatment with zinc-based ointment brings pretty good results. Apply the drug to the affected area several times a day.
Candida balanitis
Therapy should be aimed at the destruction of the fungus. For these purposes, you should regularly wash the head of the penis with laundry soap. It will create an alkaline environment where fungi cannot grow. In addition, the treatment of balanitis should be carried out by wiping the head and adjacent tissues with the solutions listed above, as well as using levorin or nystatin ointment. Oral antifungals may be given.
Ulcerative balanitis
If the inflammatory process has led to the formation of ulcers, treatment of balanitis should be carried out with agents that promote regenerationdamaged tissues. These include, for example, "Levomekol" - an ointment containing chloramphenicol and methyluracil. Tetracycline, erythromycin and synthomycin ointments are also widely used, as well as ointments based on garamycin and fusidine.
Gangrenous balanitis
This form of pathology requires complex therapy. Hydrogen peroxide is used to remove dead tissue. Intravenous and intramuscular injections of antibiotics are carried out for two weeks (on average). After that, the treatment of balanitis involves oral antibiotics. At the same time, intoxication of the body is eliminated.
