Glossitis is an inflammatory process in the tissue structures of the tongue, changing its color and structure. Pathology is characterized by increased salivation, pain when chewing and swallowing food, loss of taste sensations and difficulty in speech. Symptoms of glossitis are also manifested in hyperemia, swelling, burning of the tongue. The appearance of the main signs of the disease entails a feeling of discomfort. In this case, the formation of phlegmon on the neck is possible.
Glossitis is caused by bacterial or viral microflora. The resulting pathology can develop as an independent ailment, or it can serve as a sign of a systemic disease.
The symptoms of glossitis, which appear at its initial stage, are a burning sensation in the mouth, a foreign body and discomfort. The next step is to change the state of the language. It acquires a burgundy or bright red color and swells a little. As the pathology develops, taste sensations may become dull or completely lost. Increasing swelling causes increased salivation.
Symptomsglossitis in the later stages is a painful and difficult meal. Significant swelling of the tongue causes slurred speech of patients. At the first sign of pathology, it requires immediate treatment. Otherwise, the disease becomes chronic. Symptoms of glossitis in this case are manifested by dense and persistent swelling with a change in the structure of tissues. With a very advanced form of the disease, mushroom-shaped growths can form on the tongue.
If the pathogenic microflora caused glossitis, the symptoms (you see the photo below) primarily manifest themselves in the form of foci of acute inflammation and swelling of the tongue. They are accompanied by increased body temperature and pain in the mouth. Treatment of this pathology is primarily aimed at eliminating the causative agent of the infection.
In the case when viruses caused glossitis, the symptoms and treatment of the pathology are somewhat different from the previous case. Signs of the disease are bubbles that appear on the surface of the tongue. At autopsy, these neoplasms leave erosions that are very painful. A specialist in this type of glossitis prescribes the necessary drugs that can eliminate the cause of the disease - a pathogenic virus. With the pain of the erosions that have arisen, applications with the drug "Iruksol" are used. Gel- or jelly-like products are recommended, which include solcoseryl. They help accelerate the process of regeneration of the tissue structure. In the event that the appropriatecourse of therapy, the pathological process can spread to the oral mucosa.
A symptom of advanced glossitis is the appearance of an abscess. In this case, a throbbing acute pain occurs in the oral cavity. Another sign of advanced pathology is an uneven increase in the tongue, which causes slurred speech.
If glossitis is complicated by phlegmon, then the swelling and the focus of purulent tissue damage move to the bottom of the oral cavity and to the neck. In this case, pain is expressed quite clearly. Difficulty breathing. Often there are attacks of suffocation. Symptoms of glossitis complicated by phlegmon are expressed in the general weakness of the patient, enlarged lymph nodes and fever.
