Gargling with hydrogen peroxide is a procedure that helps a lot in the treatment of tonsillitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and other diseases of the upper respiratory tract. But it is necessary to start it only after consulting a doctor. In addition, when preparing the solution, it is important to observe the recommended proportions, otherwise you can provoke a deterioration in well-being.
Hydrogen peroxide: fighting inflammation
Hydrogen peroxide has antimicrobial, wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it is often used to disinfect mucous membranes and remove purulent plugs. With proper use of this drug, you can clean the affected areas by removing dead tissue and prevent further reproduction of pathogens.
Getting on the mucous membrane, the active substances not only begin an active fight against bacteria, but also saturate the tissues with oxygen, whichpositively affects the process of blood circulation. But since this drug is an oxidizing agent, it is not recommended to swallow it when using it. In addition, it should be remembered that in most cases it can only play the role of an adjuvant in the treatment of diseases - the use of a peroxide solution for gargling on an individual basis does not always solve the problem.
Result of using hydrogen peroxide solution
Hydrogen peroxide significantly reduces the intensity of the manifestation of inflammatory processes on the mucous membranes, resulting in:
- pain subsides;
- puffiness is removed;
- purulent content gradually decreases.
Duration of therapy with this drug is usually no more than 10 days. In any case, it will depend on the severity of the disease and its form.
Preparation of rinse solution
Here I immediately want to note that it is necessary to prepare the solution for only one use, since it is not subject to storage. But even a fresh preparation will not produce the desired effect if it is not prepared correctly. In addition, the age of the patient plays an important role - each age group has its own concentration of hydrogen peroxide solution for gargling. The proportions and rules are as follows:
- To prepare an adult remedy for sore throat, pharyngitis or tonsillitis 15 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide is diluted in half a glass of water.
- When cookingsolution for children, the concentration is made lower. For gargling a child under the age of 10, a teaspoon of 3% peroxide is added to half a glass of water, from 10 to 16 years - a dessert spoon of the drug is added to half a glass of water.
- During pregnancy, slightly different proportions are used to prepare the solution - gargling with hydrogen peroxide for sore throat is carried out with a remedy consisting of 1 teaspoon of 3% of the drug and a glass of warm water.
- For one procedure you will need 110-120 ml of the product. The temperature of the liquid should be no more than 38-40˚С.
In this case, it is strictly forbidden to increase the recommended concentration, otherwise the mucous membranes may burn. And vice versa, if it is very low, then the therapeutic effect may not be observed at all.
Gargle procedure
Before you rinse with hydrogen peroxide, you must rinse your mouth. To do this, use a solution of boric acid - 1 teaspoon of the drug in a glass of warm water.
Also, before diluting hydrogen peroxide for gargling, it is advisable to prepare a neutralizer. Chamomile infusion usually plays its role.
So, the rules for the rinsing procedure:
- put a little mouthwash into your mouth and throw your head back;
- we rinse, pronouncing "a" for a long time and straining the muscles so that the liquid does not enter the esophagus and lungs;
- spit the solution and repeat the procedure until it endsremedy.
At the end, use a neutralizer that will wash away the remnants of the drug.
Features of the treatment of angina
Most often, a solution of hydrogen peroxide is used to treat sore throats. Rinsing is carried out 4 times a day at regular intervals. At the same time, the tonsils can be treated directly with this tool - the purulent plaque is wiped with a cotton swab. But remember that it is strictly forbidden to separate it with the use of force, otherwise severe bleeding can be provoked. At home, it is only allowed to gently moisten the affected surface with a drug - this will be enough to prevent further reproduction of pathogenic bacteria.
Gargling with hydrogen peroxide for sore throat, which has developed into a chronic disease, is also recommended for prevention. This is done in the off-season, carrying out the procedure once a day.
Therapy for tonsillitis
Hydrogen peroxide solution for gargling with this disease is used for at least 5 days in a row. After each procedure, the oral cavity is rinsed with herbal decoction or regular saline.
If fever is not observed with tonsillitis, then in this case, these rinses may be the only treatment. But only after consulting a doctor!
Rinses during pregnancy
Since hydrogen peroxide is considered a completely safe remedy, it is sometimes prescribed to eliminate inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosawomen during pregnancy. This drug copes well with the problem that has arisen and does not have side effects.
This is the most appropriate treatment for pregnancy and is successful in 7 out of 10 cases.
Use solution for children
For children, gargling with hydrogen peroxide is carried out strictly according to the pediatrician's prescription and over the age of 4 years. This is due to the fact that a child who is younger may simply choke, and as a result, the liquid will get inside. This situation is quite capable of provoking unwanted complications. But in any case, no matter how old your child is, before treatment, you should show how rinsing is performed several times, and then make sure that he is doing everything right. A trial procedure is carried out using ordinary boiled water.
A solution is prepared according to the above scheme, but if in the process the child complains of discomfort in the throat, then it is advisable to dilute the remedy a little more with water. And next time, a little less peroxide should be added to the recommended amount of water - it can be reduced by half. In the event that even a weak solution causes a burning sensation, this method of treatment must be completely abandoned.
With sore throat in children, gargling with hydrogen peroxide is carried out 6 times a day; with other ENT diseases - no more than 4 times a day. During the procedure, it is important to be close to the child in order to controltreatment process. At the end, rinse your mouth with a decoction of chamomile. It can be prepared as follows: add a teaspoon of raw materials to a glass of water and bring to a boil, remove from the stove, let cool for 10 minutes, then filter.
Contraindications
Hydrogen peroxide is not allowed for use in case of individual intolerance or in the presence of an allergic reaction. In other cases, subject to the recommended dosage and the rules for using the rinse solution, it is not capable of causing any harm to the body.
