Lugol's solution with glycerin is a pharmaceutical preparation based on molecular iodine. Most often, it is used for irrigation, as well as lubrication of the mucous membrane of the larynx, pharynx and oral cavity during infectious and any other inflammatory diseases.

Pharmacological action and composition

Lugol's solution with glycerin has antifungal, antiseptic, and local irritating properties. To prepare such a drug, iodine (1%), potassium iodide (2%), water (3%) and glycerin (94%) are usually used. It is worth noting that this solution is active against most pathogenic fungi, as well as gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms. At the same time, potassium iodide accelerates and improves the dissolution of iodine, and glycerin has a softening effect on the affected tissues.

Indications for use

Lugol's solution with glycerin is recommended for children and adults in the following cases:

  • when jamming or angularstomatitis;
  • with inflammatory or infectious diseases of the pharynx and larynx (tonsillitis, tonsillitis, etc.);
  • for the treatment of otitis media (purulent);
  • for the prevention of thyroid pathologies that were caused by a low iodine content in the place of residence (endemic goiter);
  • with rhinitis (atrophic);
  • for the treatment of infected wounds and burns;
  • for trophic and varicose ulcers;
  • for the treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis;
  • for treating thermal or chemical burns;
  • for tertiary syphilis.

Instructions for use and dosage

Lugol's solution with glycerin is often used for external use. They carefully treat the damaged areas of the skin three times a day. If this drug is to be taken orally, only the attending physician should prescribe the dose, depending on the age of the patient and the existing disease.

Lugol's solution with glycerin is also actively used topically for washing lacunae. These procedures are carried out four times a day with an interval of three days. In the event that such a remedy is used to irrigate the nasopharynx, it is prescribed in an amount three times a week for 60-90 days. And for instillation into Lugol's ear, a solution with glycerin is used for a month.

Contraindications

This solution should not be used if you have iodine sensitivity. It is also not recommended to take it orally with the following deviations:

  • tuberculosislungs;
  • acne;
  • nephrosis;
  • jades;
  • adenoma;
  • furunculosis;
  • hemorrhagic diathesis;
  • chronic pyoderma;
  • urticaria.

In addition, the product should not be taken orally during pregnancy and children under 5 years old.

Side effects

For external use:

  • rhinitis, urticaria, lacrimation, angioedema, salivation and acne (if used long and extensively);
  • irritation of the skin.

Ingestion:

  • tachycardia;
  • skin allergic reactions;
  • sleep disorder;
  • nervousness;
  • diarrhea;
  • excessive sweating.

Such side effects are especially prone to people over 40.
