Ticks climb to the tops of grasses and shrubs, where they are hooked by mammals, both large animals and humans. When an unsuspecting person touches tall grass or leaves, the tick clings to clothes, crawls onto the skin or scalp, and begins to bite the "owner".
Ticks don't bite quickly like mosquitoes do. Instead, the insect needs to examine the surface of the skin, after which it crashes into it for 10-60 minutes. After the skin is cut through, the tick plunges its head into it, and leaves the paws and body above the surface in order to freely feed on blood. Thus, the tick can stay on the skin for up to several days. It is worth considering that the smaller the insect, the weaker it holds on the body and the less harm it does with its bite. But an adult can even penetrate the skin, which makes its removal very problematic. It is extremely important to remove the tick within the first 48 hours. Ticks can attach to any part of the body, butthey are especially attracted to warm, damp places: the armpits, the navel, the back of the knees, the ears, the neck, the groin, and so on. If a tick is found on a human body, it should be removed immediately. If it is impossible to get to the first-aid post, use thin tweezers. It is necessary to capture the tick as close to the skin as possible. If there are no tweezers, you can use a thread by making a loop out of it and throwing it over the tick. After tightening the loop, twist the insect in a circle, as if turning it out of the skin. Another way is to remove the tick with a greasy cream or petroleum jelly. It is necessary to lubricate the area around the insect with it, turn it on its back and pull sharply. The mouth opening of the tick will be clogged with fat, and he will loosen his grip for a while. Make sure that the tick is completely removed, sometimes its head may remain inside, which will inevitably cause inflammation and infection. The area where the insect has been attached, disinfect with alcohol or other means. Place the removed tick in a plastic bag and take it to the laboratory as soon as possible for testing for encephalitis and Lyme disease.
There is more than one variety of ticks. Any can be found on the human body. In this case, the doctor usually prescribes a course of antibiotics, such as doxycycline, without fail. Most bites, fortunately, do not lead to infection, but a characteristic rash may appear on the patient's skin.
