Non-specific urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra that can develop in both men and women. Despite the fact that there is enough information about the disease, it is not so easy to diagnose it. It is desirable to treat it at the initial stage of development, since in this case there are more chances to quickly cope with it. However, symptoms can be noticed already when valuable time is lost, and the pathology has become chronic.

What is a disease?

The presented disease is an inflammation of the urogenital canal, which is caused by various types of pathogenic microorganisms: staphylococcus aureus, fungus, herpes.

The disease is usually transmitted through sexual contact or other contact (using someone else's underwear). It develops more often in men, as they have a longer length of the urethra than in women.

Causes for the development of pathology

Non-specific urethritisis the least studied form of the disease. However, what caused it can be determined. There are such reasons for the development of the disease:

  • Unprotected sexual contact with a partner who has pathogens in his body.
  • Diabetes mellitus.
  • Weakened immunity, in which the body cannot effectively defend itself against the negative effects of fungi.
  • Excessive drinking.
  • Sedentary lifestyle.
  • Injury to the urinary system, which can be provoked by a blow, insertion of a catheter.
  • Violation of metabolic processes in the body.
  • Hypercooling.
  • Prolonged stress.
  • Too active sex life.
  • Wrong diet.
  • Defects of the urinary system.

These reasons are not the only ones. Even an infectious disease that does not affect the genitourinary system can provoke a pathology.

Symptoms of the disease

Non-specific urethritis usually has the following symptoms:

  1. Men have copious discharge that turns yellow when dry.
  2. The penis becomes painful, and its head is swollen.
  3. Urination becomes more frequent and accompanied by pain.
  4. Itching in the urethra.
  5. Pain may radiate to the lower abdomen.
  6. Burning sensation.
  7. In some cases, the temperature risesbody.
  8. General weakness, lethargy, malaise.

The chronic form of the disease can periodically worsen. However, most of the symptoms are mild. Nonspecific urethritis in women is characterized by a more saturated shade of discharge. The chronic form of pathology is dangerous because it is fraught with various complications (for example, purulent prostatitis in men). Therefore, the disease must be treated.

Disease diagnosis

Non-specific urethritis is an insidious disease, therefore, before starting treatment, it is necessary to undergo a thorough examination. Diagnostics involves the use of the following procedures:

  • General and bacteriological smear, as well as bacterioscopic analysis. This study will help identify the causative agent of the infection.
  • Laboratory tests of urine and blood. Thanks to them, you can identify gonococci, chlamydia or other microorganisms.
  • Culture of discharge from the urethra.
  • Immunological study.
  • Ultrasound examination of the prostate. This is necessary to find out if she is inflamed.
  • Palpation of the affected area and external examination.
  • Survey of the patient in order to obtain additional information, clarify complaints.
  • PCR reaction.

What complications can occur?

Non-specific urethritis in men is mostly not life-threatening. However, sometimes untimely treatment leads to a transitionpathology in a chronic form. In addition, in some cases, the following complications may occur:

  1. Narrowing of the urethra.
  2. Prostatitis (the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate) and orchitis (a pathological process occurring in the testicles).
  3. Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder).
  4. Impaired ejaculation and erection.
  5. Infertility.

You can not think that you can fight the disease on your own, even if the symptoms are not very pronounced. It is better to see an experienced specialist as soon as possible.

Treatment of non-specific urethritis should be immediate. By itself, the disease will not disappear. In addition, you should not take pills that eliminate symptoms. The cause will still remain, and the pathology will continue to progress.

Therapy involves the use of these medications:

  • Antibiotics: Tetracycline, Doxycycline. Depending on which pathogen provoked the disease, other drugs can be used: Amoxiclav, Norfloxacin.
  • Local antibacterial drugs: "Protargol", preparations based on chamomile.
  • Antiseptic solutions that contain silver, Dioxidin. You can also flush the urethra with Furacilin.
  • Vitamin complexes.
  • Drugs to restore the body's immune forces.
  • Antifungal drugs.

Sometimes a patient is prescribedsurgical intervention. However, such an outcome of events is possible only if traditional therapy did not help or the pathology turned out to be too advanced. In addition, if a man became infected due to sexual intercourse, then both partners will need therapy. And even before a full recovery, you will have to forget about sexual intercourse.
