The process of conception of a new life is a rather complex phenomenon, the study of which in detail became possible only with the development of technology.
Ovum maturation
Before the fertilization of the egg occurs, in the female body there are processes that prepare the uterus for the upcoming pregnancy: the reproductive cell matures - the carrier of one complete set of chromosomes. The place where these cells grow and develop is called the ovary.
There are two of them in the female body. As a rule, the maturation of eggs occurs alternately in each ovary, however, there are cases when, during one menstrual cycle, a female reproductive cell matures in each of them. In this case, there is a high chance of giving birth to twins.
Eggs are laid in a woman's ovaries before birth. According to scientists, each of these genital organs contains about four hundred thousand immature cells. In each menstrual cycle, one of them begins to grow, a dominant follicle is formed. It is in it that the conditions necessary for obtaining a viableeggs.
How ovulation occurs
Ovulation is the rupture of the sac of the dominant follicle and the release of the egg. A corpus luteum appears at the site of the rupture, which gradually disappears if pregnancy does not occur. The cell that left the ovary approaches the uterine or, as it is also called, the fallopian tube. It is here that the egg is waiting in the wings. If it is not fertilized within 5-6 days, the cell will die.
When conception occurs
During unprotected intercourse, male cells enter the vagina. One ejaculation ejects up to 120 million spermatozoa. This amount would be enough to impregnate all women of childbearing age in our country. But in nature, everything is not accidental. The woman's vagina has an acidic environment, and a large number of sperm cells die under its influence. Part of the male cells leave the vagina, flowing out with sperm. And only the strongest and most active enter the uterus. Here they are practically not threatened by anything, but their viability is preserved during the day. After the specified time, the spermatozoa die.
How the egg is fertilized
So, the decisive meeting happened. However, how the egg is fertilized, and which sperm will fertilize it, is still not clear.
For a long time, scientists believed that the very first sperm to reach the egg would be the lucky one. However, today more and moremore scientists come to the conclusion that the female sex cell independently chooses a “cavalier”. Nowadays, technology is not yet advanced enough to understand how this choice is made.
After the fertilization of the egg, the development of a new human life begins.
Implantation
After fertilization, the constantly growing embryo travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus, where it is implanted. By the time of ovulation, all the reproductive organs of a woman are ready for the upcoming pregnancy, therefore, as a rule, implantation occurs painlessly, although there are cases when this process is accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and minor bleeding (which lasts 1-2 days).
