In Murmansk, as in many cities of Russia, there is a psycho-neurological dispensary. It was created back in March 1963.
How it all began
In total, there were two dispensaries in the city at that time: regional and city. There were only 10 beds in the regional one. The staff of these establishments consisted of only 14 people. There were few doctors, but they were devoted to their profession. For example, N. L. Donis initiated the opening of boarding schools in the city for children who had some mental defects. Over time, it was necessary to organize drug treatment for the population. Since 1968, doctor Umetsky S. S. has been doing this. Over time, offices of child psychiatrists were opened on the basis of children's clinics. The expansion required new staff and facilities. Due to their absence, patients had to be transported to the neighboring city of Apatity. But the sick were transported in common train cars along with other passengers, which was, of course, very risky, although they were accompanied by a special team.
Improvement of conditions
In 1970, by combining city and regional institutions,Murmansk Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary. Murmansk needed such an institution. This made it possible to open inpatient departments, and an office for forensic psychiatric examination was also opened. The population began to provide medical and social assistance. Due to the fact that a psycho-neurological dispensary was opened (Murmansk), the rehabilitation of patients began to be carried out on a larger scale. Initially, work was carried out in two buildings. One was a hospital, the other was an outpatient clinic. It was inconvenient. In addition, there were not enough places to accommodate patients. But in 1977, a large building on Lobova Street, 14 was transferred to a psycho-neurological dispensary (Murmansk). This made it possible to unite all services in one room, open a laboratory, a physiotherapy room, and a forensic medical examination room. Over time, the neuropsychiatric dispensary (Murmansk) acquired a new building at 2/4 Sverdlov Street. This made it possible to open a children's and teens' department.
