Many have probably already discovered while working at a computer or reading that it is impossible to work further - the eye itches. What to do? And if at the same time he still turned red and watery, then this can be a very serious symptom. This is what we will talk about today.
Itchy eye. What if it's an allergy?
One of the main causes of eye irritation, regardless of whether you use mascara and eye shadow, as well as other cosmetics, can be allergic conjunctivitis. It sometimes acts as an isolated symptom of an allergy, but most often along with other signs: runny nose, difficulty breathing, watery eyes, skin rash.
Redness of the mucous membrane of the eyes, dilation of blood vessels, watery eyes and a feeling of "sand in the eyes" - these signs are enough to suspect an allergic reaction and go for a consultation with an allergist. Antihistamines prescribed by a specialist will help you get rid of a whole range of unpleasant symptoms at once.
Itchy eye: whatdo if it is dry eye syndrome
Those who work long hours at the computer know what I'm talking about. The symptoms of this syndrome are redness and severe itching in the eyes. This irritation of the mucosa is caused by the fact that while working at the monitor, a person rarely blinks, and the eye dries up because of this. You should not forget to blink and periodically look at objects standing at a distance. This advice is probably not new to those who work at the computer. Just keep this in mind all the time! And then your eyes will not refuse to work.
Itchy eye: what to do if it's demodicosis
On the skin of almost every one of us lives a microscopic mite - Demodex. It usually does not cause any harm to its owner until the latter's immunity is weakened as a result of some pathological process or disease. That's when the eyelash mite can cause severe itching in the eyes. If your eyes are red and itchy, see a doctor to rule out the parasitic nature of this phenomenon. In addition, if suspicions are confirmed, you will have to do an examination of the whole body in order to understand the reason for the decrease in immunity. Indeed, without treatment of the underlying disease, it is almost impossible to get rid of demodicosis.
Eyes itchy and swollen - this is conjunctivitis
When the mucous membrane becomes infected, purulent conjunctivitis develops. It is characterized by redness, itching and swelling of the eyelids. Often in the corners of the eyespurulent discharge is collected. Sometimes in the morning it is simply impossible to open the eyes because of this.
It is better not to treat conjunctivitis on your own, but to seek advice from an ophthalmologist.
Other equally serious causes of itching
The eye itches and is in the initial stage of a well-known disease such as barley. This is inflammation in the hair follicle or sebaceous gland on the eyelid. When the barley "ripens", it hurts, turns red and purulent contents appear in it, which in no case should be squeezed out! Better lubricate with brilliant green or alcohol. You can apply a decoction of calendula.
In a chronic disease of the cornea, which is called trachoma, there is also itching, the presence of a foreign body, and the eye turns red.
Sometimes itching is caused by diseases of the stomach or metabolic disorders. All this, as you understand, can only be determined by a specialist. Therefore, if there is a disturbing itching in the eyes, do not delay a visit to the doctor!
