Teeth. How do you want them to be he althy and beautiful. But alas, the lucky ones who can boast of such can be counted on the fingers. It's not worth worrying. Nowadays, modern technologies, which include insulating pads in dentistry, allow amazing results.

What are they for?

Filling materials to some extent irritate the dental pulp. For multicomponent materials, the matrix may be toxic. But this does not mean that all dental treatments contain irritating characteristics. Insulating pads in dentistry are used not only to remove the negative impact on loose connective tissue, but also to:

  • toxin prevention;
  • protection from filling material that can have a devastating effect on tooth tissue;
  • reducing the risk of microcracking during filling shrinkage.

What are the requirements for gaskets? Here are just a few ofthem:

  • Long-term protection of dentin from chemical attack
  • Protecting enamel from high and low temperatures.
  • Protection against the aggressive effects of saliva.
  • Stronger bond to the tooth than a filling.
  • Does not affect the pulp.
  • Easy to put on.

There are two types of padding in dentistry:

  1. The first option is the basic one (a layer of more than one millimeter). It protects the pulp from external irritants, retains the shape of the cavity, and is also an integral part of more expensive fillings.
  2. The second option is a thin layer. Does not fully protect against external irritations. Provides a stronger bond between the filling and the tooth.

Several groups of gaskets stand out.

Zinc phosphate and polycarboxylate cements

The first contain substances such as zinc oxide, phosphoric acid. They are in demand because they are cheap. But there are some limitations to their use. Zinc phosphate cements should not be used in close proximity to the pulp (inflammation is formed in the nervous tissue). In order to make CFC antimicrobial, copper, silver, thymol, bismuth are added to it. These pads should not be used for deep caries.

The second (we are talking about opolycarboxylate cements) consist of zinc oxide, magnesium oxide and polyacrylic acid. There are two subgroups.

  • CPC mixed with water.
  • Powder mixed with acid.

These compounds bind strongly to dentin and metals and do not irritate the pulp. The specialist is given only three minutes after mixing to use the product. A little delay - and the connection hardens.

When done right, the cement is shiny, sticky and thick.

A little more about zinc phosphate cement

It includes "Unifas 2". It is used for filling canals, for fixing constructions.

Drug needed for:

  • Fixation of teeth with pins, bridges, inlays and crowns.
  • Fixation of prostheses, metal-ceramic and porcelain crowns.
  • Treatment of teeth under crowns.
  • Layers for other filling materials.
  • Filling root canals.

Description of "Uniface 2":

  • combination of powder and liquid;
  • high strength;
  • good adhesion;
  • low solubility;
  • plastic, easy to use;
  • radiopaque.

Use:

Cement is mixed gradually. Lasts two to three minutes. After mixing, the product retains its plasticity for no more than one and a half minutes. In the cavity of the tooth, the material hardens in six minutes.

Glass ionomer cements

Insulating pads in dentistry of this type are used quite often. They are of two types:

  • modern;
  • classic.

Let's talk about the latter in more detail. Composition: glass made of aluminum, silicate, calcium plus liquid (polycarbonate acids). Everything is mechanically mixed. Advantages of GIC cement:

  • excreted fluoride fights caries throughout the year;
  • strength;
  • good adhesion without drying and pickling;
  • does not irritate the pulp;
  • low cost.

Now for the downsides:

  • long hardening period - a day;
  • cannot be used when excessive moisture and dryness;
  • excess cement must not be removed with a drill.

Technology does not stand still. In order to get rid of cosmetic defects, modern dental cement was created. It contains a light-curing resin. Such a material is called a hybrid. It freezes when exposed to a lamp. The modern mixture is not so sensitive to moisture and overdrying. But you can't use them as a pad.

Insulating varnishes

These products are also used in dental practice. They belong to insulating gaskets. Consists of one component. Its composition: polymer resin, solvent, filler and very rarely - a drug.

Varnishes are used to protect the pulp from the toxins of filling materials, recommended for deep and medium caries. Dental practice shows that the product can be combined with other pads. It is applied to the bottom and walls of the cavity. Only after that, a gasket from a different type of material is applied.

Positives:

  • has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect;
  • reduces edge sensitivity;
  • stimulates the process cell of the pulp;
  • resistance to moisture and "chemistry".

Negative points include:

  • thermal insulating effect is weak. This prevents varnish from being applied to the bottom of a highly corroded cavity.
  • lamp used for treatment
    lamp used for treatment

Application. Lacquer is applied to the damaged tooth with a thin brush or cotton swab. The walls are evenly covered with the agent, dried with air. The varnish is applied in two or three layers. The next layer is applied after the previous one has dried. One layer is not enough - the varnish is reduced, cracks form.

Conclusion

As you can see, thanks to new technologies in the field of dentistry, you can regain your beautiful smile. Only there is one "but": the work must be performed by a professional specialist with extensive experience. He will do everything to ensure that your teeth become he althy again. Another point - the desired result can only be achieved if the problem is not running.
