Dehydration syndrome, that is, dehydration, is one of the most common life-threatening and he alth conditions. Diseases that cause varying degrees of dehydration include all diseases accompanied by repeated vomiting and diarrhea. It can be intestinal infections, and acute respiratory viral infections with severe abdominal syndrome. Many physical illnesses can also be accompanied by uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea.
Humana Elektrolyt
The difficulty of replenishing the fluid lost in such cases by the body is due to the fact that life-supporting microelements leave the body simultaneously with water. At the same time, the body that has lost its water and electrolyte balance finds itself in a situation of energy deficiency.
Specially adapted rehydration mixtures help to adequately replenish the loss. The pharmaceutical market offers a range of replacement products, one of which is Humana Elektrolyt.
"Human Electrolyte" for children (as well as for adults) - low osmolar oral solutionrehydration. It is designed to restore the energy, water and electrolyte balance lost during diarrhea and exsicosis.
The drug was created and produced in accordance with the standards of the Society of Pediatricians and Gastroenterologists of Europe (ESPGAN) of the World He alth Organization, related to the composition of mixtures for oral rehydration.
Pharmacy forms of the drug
The German pharmaceutical company HUMANA produces the drug in the form of portioned powder doses of 6.25 g for the preparation of a solution, packed in hermetically sealed bags. The bags are sold in boxes of 12.
There are two types of powder forms available:
- "Humana Electrolyte" with fennel for use in children from 3 months of age, and in adults;
- "Humana Electrolyte" with the smell and taste of banana for use in children from the age of three and adults.
Portion packs contain powder to dilute in a quarter liter of boiled water. The resulting medicinal drink is consumed hot or cold as desired.
A drink made from a portion of the powder is guaranteed to be good only for one day. After this period, unused liquid is destroyed.
Powder Serving Ingredients
Powder serving "Human Electrolyte" with fennel, in addition to potassium and sodium citrates, contains sodium chloride and glucose, and also as an inertexcipient m altodextrin. Organoleptic properties are due to the presence of cumin and fennel extracts, as well as fennel oil.
Banana Flavored Powder Serving contains the same ingredients plus the potassium sweetener acesulfame. As an auxiliary inert substance, m altodextrin is included in the serving. The organoleptic properties of the drug are due to the presence of the corresponding natural flavor in the powder.
Comparative advantages of Humana Elektrolyt
- Instant replenishment of lost fluids and electrolytes.
- Keeping both the severity and duration of the dehydration syndrome.
- Excellent organoleptic qualities.
- Comfortable cooking and eating.
- Versatility for use in pediatric and general therapeutic practice.
According to its advantages, the drug is actively in demand in the pharmaceutical market. Both varieties of the Humana Electrolyte preparation are successfully used, reviews of patients, pediatricians and general practitioners on medical forums reliably testify to this. The positive perception of the solution by children is especially noted. This is not surprising, because Humana Electrolyte tea has a pleasant taste.
Scope of application
"Human's electrolyte" is recommended for use in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Equally successfully applied:
- at the first symptoms of diarrhea to prevent dehydration;
- for relief of severe acute and chronic diarrhea of any origin;
- with diarrheal syndrome, combined with vomiting syndrome, up to the development of exicosis I-II degree.
Depending on the severity of the syndrome that has developed in the patient, it can be prescribed as monotherapy or as part of a complex treatment.
Mechanism of action
"Human Electrolyte" provides prevention in mild cases of diarrhea and levels dehydration in severe cases. The optimal relative content of sodium and glucose and the low osmolarity of the solution ensure its rapid absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. This is what determines its effectiveness in the fight against exsicosis and the progression of dehydration syndrome. As a result, water-electrolyte and acid-base balances are restored, patients manage to avoid the threat of an outcome in metabolic acidosis.
Contained in the composition of Humana Elektrolyt glucose, in addition, stimulates the penetration of potassium and sodium through the mucous membrane of the small intestine, which as a result quickly normalizes the water-s alt balance and metabolism.
The quantitative content of sodium in the finished solution is intentionally close to the average quantitative indicator of sodium loss in diarrhea of various origins. The quantitative content of potassium in the solution corresponds to the physiologically required for the body, as a resultprevention of hypokalemia with persistent diarrhea.
Humana Elektrolyt also prevents weight loss during illness. The quantitatively balanced presence of glucose and m altodextrin optimally provides the patient with energy, preventing weight loss during rehydration. This prevents complications that are possible with forced starvation, which tends to adversely affect the digestion process and metabolism.
"Humana Electrolyte": instructions for use
After preliminary dissolution, the drug is used as a fractional therapeutic replacement drink. To do this, the powder contents of the package must be diluted in a cup of warm water (1/4 liter).
The resulting solution is considered ready for use, it cannot be further diluted, s alted or sweetened to taste, it can only be cooled or heated, according to the wishes of the patient. Additional dilution or sweetening will uncontrollably change the osmolarity of the Humana Electrolyte solution, the instructions for use warn against this.
The solution obtained as a result of dilution of the powder is consumed in portions, according to the scheme, regardless of the meal time. Actual timely and immediate start of treatment at the time of diagnosing diarrhea syndrome even before the appearance of obvious symptoms of dehydration.
The daily dose is calculated individually according to the severity of dehydration, and in cases with children according to their age. Replacement therapy should continue throughout the diarrhea syndrome until it is permanently eliminated.
The total amount of replacement therapy should correspond to the volume of fluid loss for the entire period of diarrhea. During treatment, thirst serves as a benchmark for the adequacy of replenishment of dehydration.
Scheme for use in children
Children aged 0 to three months are prescribed with fennel "Humana Electrolyte". Instructions for use recommends that the patient drink during the day from 200 to 800 ml of the replacement solution in 3-8 doses, depending on the severity of the dehydration syndrome, and in accordance with the volume of fluid lost with the stool.
Children aged 4 to 5 months should also receive fractionally already 300-700 ml of a similar solution per day based on the calculation formula: 50-100 ml / kg of the patient's weight.
Children aged 6 months to a year are given 375-1200 ml of replacement solution per day in 3-8 doses. The daily amount of therapeutic fluid is calculated by the formula: 50-150 ml / kg of the child's weight.
At the age of 1 to 3 years, children receive 200 ml of Humana Electrolyte solution with fennel 2 to 8 times a day. The daily amount of nutrient fluid is determined by the formula: 50-150 ml / kg of the child's weight.
Children over 3 years of age and schoolchildren during the first five hours of illness should receive 1-2 tablespoons of the solution every 10 minutes until thirst is quenched. Then they are given 100-200 ml of Humana Electrolyte solution with a banana 2-8 times a day. The daily volume of the replacement fluid will be 50-150 ml/kg of the sick child's weight.
Adult regimen
Adults, that is, patients over 15 years of age, the first 5 hours should fractionally drink up to 1 liter of solution, until you feel completely quench your thirst. In the following hours and days of illness, the patient should take 200 ml of replacement fluid after each episode of diarrhea. The total daily amount of the Humana Electrolyte solution should be calculated according to the formula: 20-40 ml / kg of the patient's weight.
Replacement therapy should be continued until the diarrhea has ceased. The total volume of the therapeutic solution drunk during the period of illness should correspond to the amount of moisture lost by the body with loose stools.
"Human's electrolyte" is not an etiotropic drug. Replenishing the lost water and electrolyte balance, it does not affect its cause, that is, the underlying disease that caused vomiting and diarrhea. It can only be used as a symptomatic, that is, an adjuvant to replenish lost fluids and trace elements. The main, etiotropic, that is, acting on the cause of the disease, treatment should be prescribed by a doctor during a visit to the patient.
