You can get sick, even being at a sufficient distance from the carrier, since the virus that causes the development of this disease moves with air currents. That is why such smallpox is popularly called chickenpox.
This disease causes very strong immunity, but it is not sterile, as the pathogen remains in the human body and can provoke the development of herpes zoster.
Chickenpox is considered a childhood disease - it rarely gets sick after seventeen years. This is explained by two facts: first, the adult organism is less susceptible to the pathogen; secondly, as a rule, by the age of majority everyone manages to get sick with it. This is for the best - at a young age, this infection is much easier to carry.
Interestingly, the practice of "pox parties" is common among many parents. When someone gets sickchild, all nearby parents are notified of this and can come with their children to infect them. This absurd, at first glance, action is by no means meaningless - complications after chickenpox in children are almost never found, which cannot be said about adults.

For example, if the disease progresses in the respiratory system, laryngitis, tracheitis, and even pneumonia may develop. Moreover, any problems caused by the varicella-zoster virus are very difficult to cure. That is why they are especially dangerous.
The consequences of chickenpox in adults are various pathologies of the liver and kidneys, including nephritis, hepatitis and abscesses.
Much less dangerous, but also unpleasant, are skin complications. In the case of weakened immunity, the development of inflammatory-purulent processes is possible, which will certainly bring the patient a lot of suffering. So, the consequences of chickenpox in adults can manifest as erysipelas, bullous streptoderma or phlegmon. Complications from the musculoskeletal system are also possible, includingarthritis and myositis.
But still, the most dangerous consequences of chickenpox in adults are disturbances in the functioning of the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as the heart and blood vessels. Such complications can be fatal, especially if they cause diseases such as meningitis, paralysis, brain cysts, encephalitis, increased blood clots or myocarditis.
Precisely because the consequences of chickenpox in adults can be so sad, it is desirable to have it in childhood. And if this failed - in adulthood, be extra careful.
