Did you know that almost three million people in the world die every year from the addiction - smoking? This is an evil that shortens life by almost a quarter of a century. Every tenth person in the world who dies from cigarettes is a Russian.
A bit of history
According to available sources, it is believed that it was Columbus who first discovered tobacco. Native Americans used tobacco to communicate with their gods and also chewed tobacco leaves as a pain reliever.
The natives gave tobacco leaves to Columbus, but he threw them away without appreciating the gift. But a member of his expedition, a certain Rodrigo de Jerez, became interested in the process of smoking and then became addicted to it himself. The outlandish plant, along with potatoes and tomatoes, was brought home. The Inquisition accused the travelers of dealing with the devil, and the unlucky smoker was put behind bars.
To Russia…
Gradually, tobacco came to Russia. At first, its use was not encouraged, and under Tsar M. F. Romanov, tobacco began to be treated sharply negatively, considering it a contraband product. There was a fight withsmoking: for its distribution and use, people were punished and fined. After a fire in Moscow in the 17th century, a royal decree was issued so that no one would sell, keep or use tobacco. Those who disobeyed were awaiting the death pen alty, however, it was replaced with another punishment - they cut off their nose.
How smoking affects the human body
Nicotine is the main component of tobacco. Why is it necessary to fight smoking and smokers? Consider a sample list of negative effects of nicotine-containing products:
- The level of CO rises, which leads to a decrease in the oxygen content in the blood.
- Possible early menopause.
- Increased risk of osteoporosis.
- Smoking control is especially important for women of childbearing age, as there is a risk of sudden abortion, fetal death in utero and low birth weight.
- Danger of serious lung disease and cancer.
- The condition of the skin and teeth deteriorates, leading to early aging.
Does this list not lead society to the conclusion that the fight against smoking should be carried out in a strict framework? Not only active, but also passive process is harmful. Even non-smokers are exposed to dangerous nicotine-containing products when they inhale the harmful smoke from cigarettes.
Euphoria from a smoked cigarette
Smoking is also considered harmful because the smoker tries to constantlyindulge in nicotine. Without tobacco, a person becomes aggressive, irritable, and when inhaling smoke, he gets a feeling of euphoria. Why doesn't a smoker die quickly? The fact is that his body produces an antidote against nicotine. A person gets involved in an endless circle: the body secretes an antidote, which is neutralized by nicotine.
How to fight?
Living in society, each person should think about he alth, and not only about his own, but also about the people around him. It is necessary to take measures to combat smoking, both independent and at the state level. Today, cigarettes are getting more expensive, but it does not really matter: those who smoke will still smoke. This means that it is necessary to independently and everywhere hold events and campaign against bad habits, such as the Anti-Smoking Day 2013, which was held in many Russian cities under the slogan: “Smoking is not fashionable!”
