Fill the pipe tightly with fragrant tobacco, light a match and tastefully take the first puffs. The body instantly relaxes, thoughts go aside for a while, a pleasant intoxication is felt … Is this feeling familiar? You are probably a heavy smoker! Then this article will be of interest to you.
Pipe tobacco from Pogar
Pogar tobacco factory is the only cigar manufacturer in Russia. In addition, they also produce the entire range of tobacco products. The manufacturing process involves unique technologies for fermenting, drying and cutting tobacco.
Interestingly, back in imperial times, Russia was considered one of the largest producers of tobacco products in Europe. One hundred and fifty years ago, at least 150 million cigars per year were produced in the territory of the former Russian Empire. This is comparable to the annual production of cigars in Cuba.
In 1854, Alexander von Guttenberg acquired the Koffsky & Kunchczynski tobacco factory in Riga, which quickly increased its production andbecame one of the largest manufactories in the country. On the eve of the First World War, Guttenberg Jr. (son of Alexander von Guttenberg) decided to play it safe and opened a branch in the city of Pogar, which is located in the Bryansk region (the former Chernihiv province).
Initially, up to 32 thousand tons of first-class tobacco was grown here, which was also exported to Europe, where it was highly valued for its taste and aroma. However, after the October Revolution, a huge prosperous enterprise almost closed due to a shortage of raw tobacco.
Production technology
Pipe tobacco from Pogar goes through a long process of processing before it hits the shelves and reaches the end consumer. Now, of course, no one grows tobacco, as it used to be. The factory purchases imported raw materials, including cigarette cartridges and filters.
Pipe tobacco from Pogar is aged in large wooden chests. There, all the flavors are mixed into one ensemble, being under pressure. It is noteworthy that all tobacco blends are made according to restored recipes of one hundred and fifty years ago. To do this, the factory employees create special conditions, daily maintaining the microclimate in the basements. In the room where raw materials are aged, there is a bright tobacco aroma, I must admit, it is very pleasant.
After the tobacco rests for the right time in chests, it is sent for packaging. To do this, it is pressed in the form of a washer, so that later the smoker pinches off a little from it and hammers it into the pipe. Next comes the packing of tobacco into packages. It could be a package orjar. The whole process is done by hand, even the excise stamps are glued by factory workers.
Types of pipe tobacco blends from Pogar
In any tobacco blend there is Cavendish tobacco - the owner of a mild caramel-fruity taste and aroma. It is important that only natural flavors, extracts of fruits and nuts, as well as spices are used in the mixture.
In addition to the Cavendish base, Pogar pipe tobacco includes varieties such as Burley from Brazil, Virginia from Argentina or Zimbabwe, Kentucky smoked tobacco, Greek or Turkish Oriental, Cuban "Piloto Cubano" and others brought from different countries and continents.
Reviews
Although today there is a certain share of exports of tobacco products from the Pogar factory to European countries and to the tobacco fair in Bremen, as it was when the factory was opened, nevertheless, the main consumer is still the Russian market.
The main argument in favor of choosing a domestic tobacco manufacturer for many is probably patriotism. But still, the price of a forty-gram pack of 150 rubles plays in favor of the factory. This is below the average cost of a pack of tobacco in stores. And yet, people who have tried “Pipe Tobacco from Pogar” leave very positive reviews about it. With a large assortment, everyone can find an option, as they say, to taste.
