A bit of history
Now the sanatorium is located in the area, which before the revolution of 1917 bore the name of Barboshina Polyana, was named after the Cossack chieftain of the Zhiguli freemen Bogdan Barbosha. His camp was located in these places (the oak forests of the Sokoly Mountains) approximately in the 70-80s of the 16th century. After the revolution, it was renamed the Frunze glade, and since 2007 it has again received its historical name.
In the second half of the 19th century, the place was chosen by we althy people of Samara. Here began the construction of cottages. So far, two mansions have been preservedcottages of Sokolov I. Ya., who is the owner of a very modern mill at that time. Today these are two buildings of the Chkalov sanatorium. In 1943, Alexei Maresyev (legendary pilot) was undergoing rehabilitation (after a severe injury and amputation of two legs). Here he was treated, learned to walk again on prostheses, swim in the river and even dance. A year later, Maresyev was in service and shot down 7 enemy aircraft.
