In surgery and ophthalmology, until recently, the inexpensive drug "Mezaton" of Ukrainian production was widely used. Now its deliveries to Russia have been stopped. About Mezaton
So, "Mezaton": instructions for use, analogs, let's consider everything in order. The active substance of the drug is phenylephrine. When ingested, it constricts blood vessels, increases heart rate, expands the bronchi, and increases blood pressure.
It is used for collapse, shock conditions, blood loss, high blood pressure, intoxication, tachycardia. Also, the drug is used before operations with spinal anesthesia, in ophthalmology to dilate the pupil, in otolaryngology for rhinitis. Available in ampoules, tablets, in the form of eye drops. Depending on the indications, the drug is administeredintravenously or intramuscularly, subcutaneously, orally, topically. "Mezaton" has contraindications: atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocarditis. Take with caution in hyperthyroidism, vascular spasms, elderly people. Possible side effects are headache and nausea. Previously, this drug was actively used in domestic medicine. Now, due to its absence in Russian pharmacies, Mezaton analogues are used, mainly in the form of eye and nose drops.
Phenylephrine hydrochloride ampoules
Produced in the form of a white powder, for intramuscular or intravenous administration, it is diluted with water for injection. For the drug "Mezaton" analogues in ampoules are not so numerous, since it is mainly used in the form of drops in the nose or eyes, cases of its injection are rare. Indications for use: acute arterial hypotension, vascular insufficiency, shock conditions (traumatic, toxic), local anesthesia (to reduce blood flow). Injections of phenylephrine hydrochloride are prohibited for arterial hypertension, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, atherosclerosis, cerebral artery disease. During pregnancy, the introduction of the drug is possible only in extreme cases. The same goes for lactation.
During treatment, you need to monitor blood pressure and heart function. There are drugs for injection, similar in properties to Mezaton. Analogues in ampoules have other active substances, but a similar effect on the body is ephedrine hydrochloride, adrenaline,norepinephrine.
"Irifrin" description
This is an analogue of "Mezaton" in Russia in terms of ophthalmology. The composition includes phenylephrine hydrochloride and auxiliary components. When exposed to it, the pupil dilator (dilator muscle) and the smooth muscles of the conjunctiva contract. As a result, the pupils dilate. The effect occurs within an hour, and lasts from two to seven hours, depending on the percentage of phenylephrine (2.5% or 10%). "Irifrin" is applied at:
- diagnosing eye diseases that require pupil dilation;
- prevention of posterior synechia (adhesions) and weakening of exudation in the iris (iridocyclitis);
- identifying possible angle-closure glaucoma;
- preoperative pupil preparation;
- treatment of glaucoma cyclistic crises;
- diagnosing deep or superficial eye injection;
- laser operations on the bottom of the eye;
- red eye syndrome;
- allergies and colds, to relieve swelling of the mucous eyes and nose.
Contraindications and side effects of "Irifrin"
Like "Mezaton", analogues have their own contraindications, for "Irifrin" they are:
- hypersensitivity to ingredients;
- glaucoma (narrow-angle, closed-angle);
- arterial hypertension;
- tachycardia;
- diabetes mellitus;
- aneurysm;
- hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis;
- co-administration with tricyclic antidepressants;
- antihypertensive drugs,MAO inhibitors;
- porphyria;
- violation of the integrity of the eye or the outflow of tear fluid.
The following side effects of the drug may occur:
- conjunctivitis;
- burning, eye irritation, watery eyes, increased intraocular pressure, blurred vision;
- reactive miosis (typical for older people);
- tachycardia, arrhythmia, other heart disorders, arterial hypertension;
- dermatitis;
- rarely manifest severe disorders in the form of collapse, myocardial infarction;
- intracerebral hemorrhage.
Vistosan
Among the eye drops there are other analogues of "Mezaton", for example "Vistosan". Since its active ingredient is phenylephrine, the drug has the same effect when used, causing pupil dilation. Pharmacological action is similar to "Irifrin". Half an hour after contact with the shell of the eye, parts of the pigment of the iris can be observed in the moisture of the anterior chamber.
Indicated for iridocyclitis, diagnosis of diseases, suspected glaucoma. A 10% solution is used to dilate the pupil in preparation for surgery, laser surgery and the treatment of glaucoma-cyclic crises. A solution of 2.5% treats the "red eye" syndrome.
Contraindicated in allergy, glaucoma (narrow-angle or closed-angle), cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, hepatic porphyria. Not recommended for use by the elderly. Solution 10%not applicable to children under 12 years of age, 2.5% - with reduced body weight. Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects of "Vistosan"
Containing phenylephrine, like "Mezaton", analogs have similar side effects: blurred vision, irritation, burning, lacrimation, rarely reactive miosis, heart disorders (tachycardia, arrhythmia, in rare cases - myocardial infarction).
For ophthalmoscopy, a solution of 2.5% - 1 drop is used, if a long-term effect is needed, the procedure is repeated in the same dosage in an hour. With iridocyclitis - 1 drop 2-3 times a day of a solution of 2, 5 or 10%. For the treatment of glaucoma-cyclic crises, a solution of 10% is used 2-3 times a day.
Neosynephrine-POS
Another ophthalmic analogue of Mezaton in Russia is Neosynephrine-POS. The active ingredient is phenylephrine hydrochloride. Available in the form of 5% and 10% solutions of eye drops. For the diagnosis of diseases, the dose of the drug used is 1 drop of a 5% solution, a repetition is allowed after an hour for a longer effect. If the pupil is not dilated enough, the use of a 10% solution is allowed.
In case of overdose, nervousness, sweating, dizziness, tachycardia, vomiting, anxiety may occur. Pharmacological properties are the same as those of analogues containing phenidephrine.
Adrianol
The Russian analogue of "Mezaton" in the treatment of the common cold - "Adrianol". Release form - nasal dropsplastic dropper bottles. The active ingredients are tramazolin hydrochloride and phenylephrine hydrochloride. It has a vasoconstrictive and anti-edematous effect on the nasal mucosa when applied topically. As a result, nasal breathing is facilitated, pressure in the middle ear and sinuses is reduced. Due to its viscous consistency, it has a long-lasting effect. Indicated for use in acute and chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, as well as an aid in the preparation of operations and diagnosis to relieve swelling.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity to components, glaucoma, kidney disease, arterial hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, atherosclerosis, cardiac ischemia, pheochromocytoma, atrophic rhinitis. Apply 1-3 drops 4 times a day for adults, children from one to five years old - 2 drops 3 times a day. The duration of the course is not more than seven days. Rarely, side effects in the form of burning and dryness of the mucous membrane occur.
Nazol Kids
Analogues of "Mezaton" in otolaryngology, created specifically for children - "Nazol Baby" and "Nazol Kids". The main active ingredient is phenylephrine hydrochloride. Additional components - eucalyptol, glycerol, macrogol, sodium hydrogen phosphate, disodium edetate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, benzalkonium chloride, purified water. Difficulty breathing is relieved by the action of phenylephrine - smooth muscle contraction, vasoconstriction, mucus reduction.
The rest of the components eliminate discomfort, moisturize the mucous membranes, and have an anti-inflammatory effect. Appointed atrunny nose, infections in the upper respiratory tract, colds and flu, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis. "Nazol Kids" is produced in the form of a spray, the permissible dosage is 2-3 sprays every 4 hours. Used for children from the age of six.
Nazol Baby
Mezaton has analogues and substitutes available even for babies. This is "Nazol Baby" in the form of nasal drops with the active substance phenylephrine in a 0.125% solution. This content of the component ensures safety for the delicate mucous membrane of the baby.
Additional ingredients - disodium s alt, benzalkonium chloride, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, dibasic sodium phosphate, polyethylene glycol, dibasic potassium phosphate, glycerol, purified water. It has an antimicrobial effect without disturbing the receptor perception of the children's mucosa. It is prescribed for colds and viral diseases, hay fever, allergic rhinitis.
In the first year of life, the drug is used 1 drop every 6 hours. For children from 1 to 6 years old, the dose is increased - 2 drops every 5 hours. The duration of the course is no more than three days. Use is contraindicated for women during pregnancy and lactation. These are the most convenient and safe analogues for Mezaton. Cold Remedies
Single-component drug "Mezaton" analogues bypassed in areas of use. Medicines containing phenylephrine in combination with other active substances are used duringcolds and flu, to eliminate characteristic symptoms. So, for example, Maxicold is available in the form of tablets or powder for the preparation of a solution taken orally.
Active ingredients - phenylephrine hydrochloride, paracetamol and ascorbic acid. It is used for chills, fever, nasal congestion, headache and muscle pain in colds. Other similar Russian-made drugs are Prostudox, Feniprex-S, Flucomp.
