Everyone knows that many newborns and infants suffer from the accumulation of gases in the intestines. From about 2 months, every second child is susceptible to this disease. After the unsuccessful use of medications, there is only one way out - setting up a gas outlet tube. And here there are a lot of supporters and opponents of this method of venting gases. Is it harmful?
Why is this happening and what to do?
Usually, excessive accumulation of gases occurs due to spasm of some parts of the intestine or banal overfeeding. In such a situation, the child becomes restless, refuses to breastfeed, cries uncontrollably, pulls his legs to his stomach. At the first such signs, young mothers rush to help the baby without looking back. Everything is used: medicines, massage, heating pad, dill water. However, there are times when only the installation of a gas outlet tube alleviates the condition of the child. However, it must be emphasized that this procedure is a last resort and should not be performed unnecessarily.
Installation of a gas tube for children: highlights
For the mentioned procedure, you must first purchase a rubber vapor tube from a pharmacy. It is a rubber catheter with a rounded blind end, near which there are oval holes for the release of gases.
Before use, it must be thoroughly washed with soap, rinsed with boiling water and dried. In addition to the mentioned device, you will need:
- vaseline oil (or boiled vegetable oil);
- oilcloth;
- 2-3 diapers;
- a vessel of water.
Procedure
Many young, inexperienced mothers are concerned about the question: "How is the installation of a vent tube?" The question is important, since the incorrect introduction of the catheter will not alleviate, but only aggravate the situation. Let's look at the basic rules. Before proceeding with the procedure, it is necessary to undress the baby and lay it on the back, placing an oilcloth with a diaper under the ass. Then, having thoroughly lubricated the rounded end of the tube with vaseline oil, push the child's buttocks apart with the left hand, and start inserting the catheter with the right rotational-translational movements. The insertion depth for infants is 7-8 cm, for children 1-2 years old - 8-9 cm. For convenience, it is best to mark centimeters in advance on the tube in order to stop in time when the catheter is advanced through the intestine.
After the placement of the gas outlet tube for the newborn is carried out,gases must be checked. For this purpose, a vessel with water is used, into which the free end of the catheter is lowered. If bubbles appear in the water, then everything is done correctly. So, you can, covering the child with a diaper, wait for time. It usually takes 30 minutes for the baby to feel relief and calm down.
Installation of a vent tube without consequences
During the procedure, you can stroke the baby's tummy clockwise. This promotes the movement of accumulated gases through the intestinal tract. The gas outlet tube is removed slowly, with rotational movements, trying not to harm the baby. Then the child is washed away and the skin around the anus is treated with baby cream. In case of poor gas discharge, the procedure can be repeated after 3-4 hours.
