Radon baths are classified as alpha-therapy procedures. The basic principle of their impact on the body is based on the process of decay of the inert radioactive element radon. The result of this reaction is the formation of alpha radiation.
Radon baths are used with a strong concentration of a radioactive element, ranging from one hundred and twenty to two hundred nCi per liter, and also with a weak one - from one to ten nCi/l.
Radon enters the patient's body through the skin, lungs and mucous membranes. The radioactive element is released into the environment through the respiratory system.
For a course of medical therapy, the doctor may prescribe radon baths to the patient. Indications for their use:
- dysfunction of the nervous system (neuritis and neuroses, neuralgia, injuries of nerve endings, etc.);
- the presence of pathological processes in the osteoarticular system (osteochondrosis and arthrosis, myositis and arthritis);
- diseases of the heart and blood vessels (ischemia, hypertension, thrombophlebitis, etc.);
- pathologies of the skin (eczemachronic type, psoriasis, scleroderma, neurodermatitis, etc.);
- diseases of the reproductive system in women (the presence of an increased number of estrogens, various inflammatory processes, fibroids, menopausal syndrome, etc.);
- pathological processes of the digestive system, which are inflammatory in nature;
- diseases of the respiratory system (pulmonary obstruction of a chronic nature, bronchial asthma, inflammation of the mucous membrane and paranasal sinuses);
- pathology of the excretory organs (pyelonephritis, cystitis, chronic urethritis);
- dysfunction of metabolic processes and diseases of the endocrine system (diabetes, obesity, hyperthyroidism).
Have radon bath contraindications. These include:
- radiation sickness of acute or chronic type;
- low protective functions of the body;
- the presence of various harmful factors (high-frequency magnetic fields and ionizing radiation) at the workplace of patients.
Radon baths affect all systems and organs of the patient. The radioactive element has the ability to directly influence the cells of the body, which distinguishes these water procedures from others. When exposed to the skin, radon initially narrows and then expands the capillaries, which helps to increase blood flow and normalize vascular tone. Such procedures have a positive effect on the normalization of the functions of the anticoagulant and coagulation systems, which also improves microcirculation processes.
Radon baths, among other things, have a strong analgesic effect. This effect on the body is produced by blocking the transmission of pain impulses in its very center, as well as at the spinal stage.
Carrying out these procedures increases the immune forces of the body, has a calming effect on the brain and normalizes the work of the heart and blood vessels. Alpha therapy helps to suppress the manifestations of an autoimmune nature and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Taking radon baths normalizes metabolic processes, and also accelerates the recovery and healing of the skin.
