Regardless of the form of release, "Lazolvan" belongs to the group of mucolytic (thinning) agents with the active ingredient in the composition - ambroxol. Mucolytic drugs are used to thin sputum that is difficult to pass. If children have a strong cough, and sputum, due to viscosity, comes off with great difficulty, in such cases this type of medicine comes to the rescue.
Children's "Lazolvan" is available in the form of a syrup, which makes it much easier for children to take the drug, even in infancy.
Form of release for use in children
"Lazolvan" in syrup is presented in the form of a clear, almost colorless and slightly viscous liquid that tastes like wild berries, strawberries or citrus fruits. The drug is available in 100 and 200 ml bottles packed in a cardboard box. Each pack contains a 5ml measuring cup.
Other release forms
Besides syrup, there are also other formsrelease of "Lazolvan": solution for inhalation, lozenges, tablets and capsules ("Lazolvan Max"). For the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the nose, there is "Lazolvan Rino". However, it contains another active ingredient.
What is the composition of "Lazolvan" for children?
Composition
The active ingredient of the drug of any form of release is ambroxol in the form of hydrochloride.
The drug in syrup is available in two concentrations:
- 5 ml syrup form contains 15 mg of the active ingredient in the form of ambroxol hydrochloride;
- 5 ml syrup form contains 30 mg of the active ingredient in the form of ambroxol hydrochloride.
Auxiliary components: sorbitol, benzoic acid, flavors (vanilla, berry), glycerol, hydroxyethylcellulose distilled water, acesulfame potassium.
Ambroxol hydrochloride, which is the active ingredient in children's "Lazolvan", has an effect that increases the secretion of bronchial mucus, a mucolytic (thinning) effect of mucus, activates the functions of the respiratory mucosa, and contributes to the normalization of the functioning of the pulmonary alveoli. All this activates the process of the mucociliary mucus cycle in the respiratory tract. The viscous sputum is thinned, and the expectorant properties lead to the removal of excess mucus from the bronchial compartments through the cough reflex.
With a dry cough, children's "Lazolvan" helps to improve sputum expectoration, and with a wet cough, it effectively clears the airways from excessslime.
In addition, the active substance "Lazolvan" - ambroxol hydrochloride - improves the penetration of antibiotics into the lungs and bronchi, thereby enhancing their action and increasing the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, it has the ability to be rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract. In blood plasma, the level of the maximum concentration of the active substance is reached within 1.5 hours. The therapeutic effect of "Lazolvan" occurs due to the accumulation of the drug in the bronchial and lung tissues.
Clinical studies have not revealed any significant concentrations of the active substance in other tissues and organs.
Metabolization occurs in the liver. The kidneys excrete up to 95% of the active substance of the drug from the body. The half-life is from 8 to 12 hours. The drug does not accumulate in tissues and organs.

Dosage of "Lazolvan" for children
The volume of the maximum daily dose of the drug for use in children under 12 years old is from 30 to 45 grams, which are recommended to be divided into 2-3 daily doses depending on the complexity of the disease, the age of the patient, and the severity of the cough syndrome

Children over 12 years old - 10 ml syrup with ambroxol concentration 15 mg/5 ml or 5 ml ambroxol concentration 3 times a day
The duration of the course is determined by the doctor. If the symptoms of the disease persist and the desired effect is absent after 4-5 days, you should consult a doctor.
Is children's "Lazolvan" completely safe with a dry cough?
Side effects
Digestive system: nausea may occur, a decrease in the sensitive function of the oral cavity, less often - dyspeptic symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, spasmodic pain in the epigastric region, a feeling of dry mouth.
Immune system: rarely - allergic skin manifestations, anaphylactic shock, hypersensitivity, pruritus.
Nervous system: impaired taste sensitivity.
The incidence of adverse events ranges from 0.1% to 10%, which are extremely rare sporadic cases, clinically associated withthe reception of "Lazolvan" which is not always proven.
"Lazolvan" enhances the effect of some antibacterial compounds by increasing their penetration into the bronchial secret. These include, for example, amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin. There are no other clinical reported cases of drug interactions.
Special Instructions
"Lazolvan" is an antagonist of antitussives (drugs to suppress the cough reflex, prescribed for dry unproductive cough), which make it difficult to expectorate. Accordingly, it is not recommended to combine "Lazolvan" with those.
Patients with severe skin pathological processes, such as Lyell's syndrome or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, at an early stage of the disease may react to the drug with a rise in temperature, body pain, increased cough, sore throat. There are only sporadic cases of Lyell's syndrome and Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which, quite possibly, simply coincided with the start of taking ambroxol-containing drugs. A clinically determined association between these syndromes and drug use has not been proven.
At the first sign of the above syndromes, the medication should be stopped immediately and seek emergency medical attention immediately.
The appointment of children's "Lazolvan" during pregnancy takes place in medical practice and is carried out quite often.
Important note
Important! Usually the instructions do not say this, but be aware that it is not recommendedtake "Lazolvan" and similar mucolytic drugs at night. It is easy to guess that the growing cough reflex and sputum discharge simply will not let the child sleep, or in a dream the baby simply will not be able to cough up sputum normally, and all of it will remain in the airways in a liquefied state.
Patients of childhood after 12 years of age do not need to use the syrup form of the drug. Pills are fine.
Reviews on the effectiveness and feasibility of the drug
The drug is considered quite safe.
A fairly significant amount of real feedback about "Lazolvan" comes from parents of preschool children, since it is this age group that is most susceptible to diseases of a viral-infectious nature. Many disputes are caused precisely by the expediency of prescribing mucolytic drugs at a younger age. There are many doubts about the need for thinning sputum in principle, since, in simple terms, children do not yet know how to “correctly” cough and, in fact, cannot effectively cough up thinned sputum. Accordingly, the intended purpose of the drug is not respected, and children take it for nothing.
No less number of parents nevertheless observed a progressive therapeutic effect of the drug, when, at the beginning of Lazolvan therapy, after 3-4 days, a dry and unproductive cough became wet, mucus discharge was observed, the child's condition improved markedly.
Also, despite the fact that Lazolvana syrup has a pleasantfruity sweet aroma and taste, many parents have had difficulty getting their child to take the medicine. Moms and dads had to resort to tricks and, for example, add medicine to a bottle of compote or mixture, to a cup of juice.
There were also potential doubts about the drug's safety in terms of addiction among patients. Nevertheless, there is not a single clinical case or a review of a real addiction to the mucolytic effect of the drug.
There are many positive and negative reviews about the effectiveness of the drug.
It is worth noting that the drug is designed to achieve a visible therapeutic effect in the first days of use. If after 4-5 days the condition and symptoms have not changed for the better, the drug should not be continued, but it is necessary to consult a doctor about changing the treatment tactics.
Reviews about the side effects of the drug
Reviews of patients and parents of children about "Lazolvan" usually speak in favor of good tolerability of the drug. Side effects are extremely rare manifestations, and most of them are gastrointestinal reactions. This is due to the close location of the cough and vomiting centers in the human brain. Stimulation of one of them affects the neighboring one.
Although the instructions for the drug do not highlight any features of the use of the drug in relation to meals, in order to avoid unpleasant side effects from the gastrointestinal tract in the form of vomiting, it should be taken half an hour before or one hour after a meal.
Among the few side effects after inhalation with Lazolvan, judging by the reviews, there were also cases of skin rashes or skin flushing.
It is noted above that the drug is quite safe and side effects are extremely rare. However, its independent appointment is not recommended. This is especially true for children in infancy.
