Acute salpingo-oophoritis is a gynecological disease that affects the fallopian tubes and ovaries. In the event that rational timely treatment is not carried out, the pathological process may become chronic, which in the future can lead to woman's infertility.

Causes

Inflammatory processes in female organs are the most common diseases worldwide. Gynecology of any country annually faces numerous cases of their occurrence. For example, the main cause of acute salpingo-oophoritis is infection. Moreover, the pathogenic microflora can be both nonspecific (streptococci, staphylococci) and specific (chlamydia). The infection can also penetrate from the underlying parts of the reproductive system (uterus), and from the abdominal cavity (for example, with the development of appendicitis).

Symptomatics

This disease has a number of symptoms. Today, thanks to the development of technology, you can see with your own eyes howvarious gynecological diseases. At the same time, it will not be possible to find a photo with visual signs of salpingoophoritis. The main symptoms of this disease are pain, which can be localized both in both iliac regions, and in one of them. In addition, there are obvious signs of intoxication (increase in body temperature up to 39 ºC, deterioration of he alth, fatigue, etc.). In the event that this gynecological disease is not treated, the pathological process that began in the fallopian tubes also affects the ovaries. This leads to the formation of the so-called salpingo-ovarian tumor. In the future, adhesions begin to form in the fallopian tubes. This prevents the passage of the egg, as a result of which the woman develops infertility. Often there are areas of the fallopian tube delimited by adhesions. They gradually accumulate water. In this case, they talk about the development of hydrosalpinx. If an infection gets into such a limited space, then over time pus accumulates there and a pyosalpinx is formed.

Treatment

This gynecological disease should be treated as early as possible. This is due to the fact that it tends to become chronic. Antibacterial therapy is the basis for the treatment of acute salpingo-oophoritis. Initially, broad-spectrum drugs (cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, semi-synthetic penicillins) are prescribed. After it is established which pathogenic microorganism penetrated, thisgynecological disease, antibiotics are selected taking into account the sensitivity of the detected infection to them. It is also often necessary to use proteolytic enzymes. They are necessary in order to prevent the appearance of adhesions. In the event that they are not used, this can lead to infertility even when the pathogen is completely removed from the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Only complete and rational treatment can prevent the development of complications.
